Picnic

Picnic

Almost all living things on earth eat outside. Humans are the only real exception as most of our food consumption takes place indoors. However, if you have only been enjoying your meals at the kitchen table, you are really missing out. Picnics continue to be a popular activity for families as well as couples. Picnics are easy to set up and you can have one almost anywhere.

The Date Activity

If you want to impress your date, set up a romantic picnic for the two of you. You don't even need to know how to cook. In fact, it is probably easiest if you plan your picnic to include a light snack, a delicious dessert and a fine bottle of wine. If you don't know where to start, head to your local wine shop. They can help you select a great wine and many shops even offer prepared picnic baskets with everything you need included.

If you want to make your own picnic, you will first need a picnic basket. Add some crackers and cheese. For dessert, chocolate covered strawberries are a great choice. If the wine needs to be chilled, bring an ice bucket along with you. If it is a hot day, you can add an ice pack or two to the basket as well. Once you have the food and wine covered, don't forget the accessories. You will need a large blanket for the two of you to sit on. Don't forget the wine glasses and a corkscrew. You should also bring a knife for the cheese and some napkins.

If your picnic is at night, you need to bring your own light. Candles are romantic, but they can easily get blown out. Instead, bring along some battery operated electric candles, such as the type you place in your window at Christmas time. They are practical but can make your picnic much more romantic. Romantic picnics can take place at a park, but make sure that the one you are heading to is open at night and is safe. Perhaps the most romantic option is a moonlight picnic on the beach. You can even have a picnic in your own living room on a rainy day. Light the fireplace and spread out a blanket on the floor.

On Your Own / With Friends

Of course, picnics do not have to be romantic in order to be enjoyable. Picnic lunches are great if you head to the beach or lake with your friends. If you visit amusement parks, consider bringing a picnic lunch to save money. Most parks have an area set up with picnic tables. Picnics work great for play dates, family reunions, and many other social occasions. Consider having each guest bring a dish to share.
