Founded by a Jewish Rabbi, Yaacov Deyo of Aish Ha Torah, Speed Dating has become an increasingly popular way to meet new singles. The concept was founded by Rabbi Deyo to help Jewish singles meet other singles of like faith in response to too many Jewish singles marrying outside of their faith. The intention was that the couples would meet each other and make an instant connection that would ultimately lead to marriage. The plan worked and Speed Dating was born. In fact, it was so successful that SpeedDating is a registered trademark associated with Aish Ha Torah. However, Speed Dating was not to stay only within Jewish circles. Once word of this fabulous dating encounter spread, Speed Dating events began appearing across the globe.
In a Speed Dating event, men and women are introduced "Round Robin" style. They speak with one another for a limited amount of time, roughly between 3-10 minutes. They then move on to "interview" the next person. They are allowed to ask each other questions, yet they are forbidden to exchange personal information. The hopes is that by the end of the event, the participants create a list of their potential matches, or who they would like to give their personal information to. The organizers then look for matches and offer each participant the others information. This is a great way to meet new people and discover quickly whom you feel compatible with in a short instance of time. This offers many benefits and prevents the participants from having to endure long dating sessions with people they have nothing in common with.
If you are interested in attending a Speed Dating event, your first job will be to find one in your local area. There are a number of different organizers as well as organizations. If you find a local organization but they don’t have any current events scheduled, don’t give up hope. Check with them frequently and you will be sure to have ample notice to attend the next gathering. Also, if you are a member of a singles group, you may wish to initiate organizing a Speed Dating event or party.
Speed Dating has reached many more groups then the Jewish singles it began with. Today, you will find speed dating events organized by ethnic groups, sexual orientation, religious preferences, and more. In fact, it isn’t uncommon for organizers to plan events based upon criteria such as divorced with children, mature singles, older men seeking younger women and vice versa, or based upon hobbies such as art buffs or fitness enthusiasts. There are Speed Dating events geared towards everyone and research has shown that these events are not only popular, but they are also successful and have great results.
If you are interested in attending a Speed Dating event you will need to pre register and either send your payment ahead of time or pay online. Prices vary by each organization, but you should generally expect to pay between $25.00-$50.00 for your ticket. As with any other dating experience, it is important to use good judgment when meeting anyone for your date.
