One of the things I have always found silly is how women still feel as though they are expected to be passive when it comes to meeting men. This is the 21st century after all, so why is it that modern women are still allowing themselves to sit idly by, hoping the guys come to them? Let’s go over some of these fears and get over them!
Myth #1: All men dislike aggressive / assertive women, and making the first move is a sign of such.
Fact: Most guys I know are rather shy when it comes to striking up a conversation with a woman they find attractive; many of them have confided in me that they wish they weren’t expected to always make the first move! It’s not a sign of aggression or even over assertiveness – it’s just part of being a social creature. The easiest way to start a real conversation is to find one item he is wearing that you truly like and comment on it, no different than what you might do in the ladies’ room while touching up. Believe me, guys like flattery, too – just so long as you’re being honest! No one likes to be patronized.
Myth #2: All men assume women who make the first move are “easy”.
Fact: Maybe that’s what your grandpa thinks, but none of the men I’ve ever gotten to know think that! Again, new era here – live it, love it, revel in it! And if you come across a guy who really does think that way, do you honestly want to get to know someone like that? Every modern woman I have ever met who was involved with a ridiculously old-fashioned kind of guy felt as if they were walking on egg shells about everything. That’s no way to live.
Myth #3: All men think that women who make the first move will walk all over them.
Fact: Well, maybe there are a few guys who think like that, but for the most part, in this day and age, it’s all about equality – as much a give and take as possible. These days, guys wash their own dishes and clothes, they cook, they clean and sometimes, they even sew a button back on their shirt! And guess what: we have their modern moms to thank for that! And just like how their moms taught them how to take care of themselves, they also taught their boys, practically through osmosis, that it really is okay for a girl to talk to them first.
So, go grab a bat that feels right, chalk up, walk up to the plate and go out swinging – in your most flattering outfit, of course!
